Erin is currently a member of the Philharmonia Chorus Professional Scheme, and a former member and scholarship holder of the BBC National Chorus of Wales

 

Multi award winning soprano Erin Alexander studied opera on a full scholarship at the European Opera Academy at the Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini, Florence, Italy.

While there, she studied under Head of Voice, Leonardo di Lisi, and performed the roles of Despina (Cosi fan Tutte), Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), and Rosina (Il Barbiere di Siviglia).

Erin gained her Master of Music from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, from which she received a bursary, and graduated with a Master of Music under the tutelage of Gail Pearson in 2018. At the RWCMD, Erin performed the roles of Adele (Die Fledermaus), Mrs Fiorentino (Street Scene), and Gretel (Hansel & Gretel). Prior to this, Erin read Music at the University of Chichester under Ian Baar, graduating with First Class Honours and the Funtington Music Group Robert Headley Music Prize.

Recital & Concert Stage

Erin thrives on the concert stage and in recitals. Her gala engagements include the British Embassy in Romania for Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebrations, the Virginia McKenna Born Free Foundation at Goodwood House, the Goodwood Revival, Goodwoof, and the Savoy Hotel in London. She has recently been appointed the Principal Soloist for the Goodwood Symphony Orchestra. Erin is a founding member of the Champagne Quartet, with whom she has performed with for the WNO Orchestra at St David’s Hall, and alongside Voces8.

Oratorio

In Oratorio, Erin made her debut stepping in for Catherine Bott, performing Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater. Her Oratorio repertoire includes Mozart’s Requiem, Alleluia, and Mass in C Minor, Haydn’s Nelson Mass, Handel’s Messiah, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solenelle, Poulenc’s Gloria, Mendelssohn’s Hymn of Praise, Pslam 42, and Hear My Prayer, and the world premiere of Ian Lawson’s One World Cantata at Llandaff Cathedral. Erin’s international Oratorio highlights include performing Palestrina at the Museo San Columbano in Bologna in their Baroque Suite with period instruments, Rossini in the Duomo in Florence, and Byrd at the Vatican in Rome.

Original Works

As the first recipient of the Cooper Hall Emerging Artists Bursary Award, Erin performed the role of Zerlina (Don Giovanni) with assistant director at Royal Opera House and director at WNO, Greg Eldridge, and M(La Boheme) for the editor of Opera Now. Cooper Hall commissioned her to write and perform a new piece of operatic theatre, called “On a High Note”. The performance thrilled audiences at the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe, to 5* acclaim, and toured the UK before the pandemic.

Erin is now working on a new lecture recital around Schumann’s Frauenliebe und Leben, which explores the music amidst the diaries and love letters between Robert and Clara Schumann.
